TSA
MHS and MSHS students attended the TSA Conference in Salina in April 2014. TSA stands for Technology Student Association. Students compete in technology based projects for awards and recognition among Kansas students.
Digital Learning
Blended Learning occurs in many ways in Maize. This year, a new way of teaching a blended approach was implemented at both high schools in Maize. Senior Government classes were given the option to learn using a "flipped" approach. Students attended school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and completed work online on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This approach was used to help students to learn how to learn online and prepare them for college online courses.
DIGITAL LEARNING DAY is a day recognized nationally and is a day where districts can share some great things that they do with technology. In February of 2014, Maize participated by sending in pictures of some great things that we are doing. Superintendent Doug Powers shares with us an overall summary of that.

Mrs. Proehl from Maize Central Elementary School, implemented a fun project that had everyone doing the Robot! Mrs. Proehl posed a question to her students. "If you could invent a robot that solved a problem that you might have, what would it do?" The students used their GoogleDocs accounts to write and collaborate on descriptions of what their robots would do. They then created this robot at home under one condition...No one is allowed to buy anything! The robot was to be made of junk. Chorbie, shown here does chores for this clever student! Wouldn't that be great! The students were then given the opportunity to present their robots and present their projects to the class! Talk about 21st Century learning skills! Way to go!
It is SO fun to see what students can do when they have a creative assignment like this! Students in Mrs. Maxwell's class at Maize Central Elementary School used watercolor on construction paper to design "crazy hair day". Haylee did the super picture that you see here, and sports her Maize Central Elementary t-shirt as well! If I saw Haylee in the hallways at MCE, I think I would recognize her from this amazing resemblance of her! Good job, Haylee!
Maize Virtual School students meet socially at many events throughout the year! On Friday, October 4th, they met at Maize Recreation Center for painting and literature "coffee shop" talks. Maize Virtual School includes students from Kindergarten to 10th grade. The students pictured are from the Wichita area, but MVPS includes students from all over Kansas. Events are held at various locations!
