Spring is here and the students are at a new stage in their educational development! Kindergartners learning to read, first graders reading to learn...it's a very exciting developmental stage in your child's life! Research shows that students at this stage of development comprehend information faster than at any other time in their lives. They are literally like little sponges! This is why it is important to keep exposing them to valuable experiences and information.
ON THE GO TECHNOLOGY
For those of you tech savvy parents out there, pump your child's ipod or MP3 with some educational music! Some of the tunes that our teachers love are from:
Dr. Jean's cd "Rock Your Math Class", "Kiss Your Brain", and "All Day Long",Jack Hartman's "Rhyming to Read", and Ron Brown's "Rock Your Math Class". The songs are fun and catchy-and help students to remember basic facts and reading strategies!
For an overview of reading skills at the kindergarten and first grade level, go to Lee County's Website Click on the skill that you want to see more about. There are mini movie lessons for your child to view here.
For summer reading, be sure to sign up for Literactive! It's free! Go to literactive.com. Once you're a member, go to ROAD TO READING and expose your child to wonderful activities for primary learning!
For math practice that goes right along with what students have been learning in their new Envision Math program, go to http://illuminations.nctm.org/Activities.aspx?grade=1
Students of course can also log into Envision to practice activities done in the classroom! This login is at https://www.pearsonsuccessnet.com/snpapp/login/login.jsp Be sure to get your child's login from his/her teacher if you don't have it!
