Maize Elementary students are the first in the district to use iPads in their classrooms. As part of a school initiative, MES did a fundraiser to earn the funds to purchase 20 iPads for use in their MTSS reading program. They sold Entertainment books and was the top fundraiser in the Sedgwick County. The school originally considered purchasing E-readers but felt they were too limited in scope. Finally, decided on iPads. They are in the introduction stage, exploring app usage. Their plan is to utilize the iPads in teaching CC standards focusing on technological tools to enhance higher level thinking skills.Every student has an opportunity to work with the iPads almost every day. The iPads induce engagement, immediate feedback, and an opportunity for students to learn with the latest technology. Teachers in the school have been instrumental in finding appropriate apps for the ipads and helping eachother to use them effectively.
